Merchant Miles

Buy low, sell high, and figure out what each town needs before your rivals get there first. Read the news, pack your four barrels, run the stall, and use every market day to plan the next one.

You don’t have to guess in the dark.

Newspapers tell you about shortages and surpluses. Rumours can send you towards an unexpected opportunity. Laws and decrees change what can be traded and how a market behaves. Contracts give you a clear job, while the Merchant Notebook keeps what you have learned close at hand. You still make the call, but the information lives in the world around you.

This is an in-development look at the game, so some things will still change.

A day on the road

What you’ll be doing.

01

Read the market

Check prices and read the newspaper for shortages, surpluses, new laws, and decrees. Rumours and contracts can point you towards a job worth taking.

02

Buy and pack

Buy from public markets, producers, wholesalers, auctions, and tavern contacts. Your entire stall fits into four barrels, so every purchase takes up valuable space.

03

Choose the road

Compare the time, cost, and risk of each route. Perishable goods keep losing freshness while you travel.

04

Run the stall

Set a price for each barrel, listen to what customers want, and choose whether to accept an offer, meet halfway, or hold firm.

05

Learn and move on

Use the market report to see your real profit, missed demand, and walkaways. Then update your notes and decide where to trade next.

The main features

An economy you can understand through the world.

A market that keeps moving

Town prices change with shortages and surpluses. Laws and decrees can favour certain goods, restrict others, or make a sensible plan suddenly much less sensible.

Four barrels, plenty of choices

Your stall travels in four barrels. Balance your coins, cargo space, travel costs, and the freshness of anything perishable.

More than one place to buy

Public markets are only the start. Producers, wholesalers, auctions, and tavern contacts each offer a different mix of price, quantity, and risk.

Customers at the stall

Set your prices, hear customers out, and haggle when they make an offer. Push too far and they may walk away.

Rivals, contracts, and reputation

Rival merchants chase opportunities of their own. Complete contracts and build Respect to reach new towns, suppliers, and more serious work.

A useful report, even after a bad day

See your actual profit, what sold, what people wanted, and why they left. A poor market day can still tell you what to change tomorrow.
